This gives rise to some fascinating facts that show just how diverse the world we live in can be, whether it be for better or for worse. • Most dangerous country in the world
Honduras classifies as the most dangerous country on earth, mainly due to its illegal drug trade, which contributes to a homicide rate of about 90.4 per 100,000 population.
• Least dangerous country in the world
Singapore is the safest place on earth with a homicide rate of just 0.2 per 100,000 population.
• Highest place in the world
The world's highest place is Mount Everest in Nepal. It has a height of 29,029 ft. It takes around 2 months to reach its summit and Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were the first two people to have succeeded back in 1953.
• Lowest place in the world
The Dead Sea is the lowest place on Earth, situated more than 400m below sea level. This sea is found on the borders of Israel, the West Bank, and Jordan.
• Most densely populated country in the world
With a population of around 157 million, Bangladesh is the most densely populated country on Earth. It has 1,067 people per square kilometer!
• Least densely populated country in the world
Mongolia is classified as the least densely populated country in the world, and has 'only' 2.8 million people occupying its 1.56 million km² of land. This means there's just 1.7 people living per square kilometer.
• Driest place in the world
The driest place on Earth has to be the South America's Atacama desert, when excluding polar regions. The average rainfall here is only 15mm annually.
• Wettest place in the world
The annual rainfall of the Indian village Mawsynram is a staggering 11,872mm, making it the wettest place on Earth.
• Hottest place in the world
Dasht-e Lut or the Lut Desert in Iran is the hottest place in the world, spanning 51,000km². Just to put you in the picture, it has hit a temperature record of 70.7 °C (159 °F), and it's so hot that temperatures have to be measured from space.
• Coldest place in the world
The coldest place on Earth is, of course, Antarctica. Here, the temperature ranges between -10 °C (on coastal areas) and -60 °C (at higher inland areas).
• Most endangered species in the world
The Indonesian Javan Rhino is the most endangered species in the world, and is expected to last for just another 30-40 years. They used to populate quite a large stretch of South-East Asia, but now, sadly, there's less than 60 remaining.
• Least endangered species on Earth
Although this is very broad, research suggests that the many species of ants, when combined, add up to an estimated 100 trillion in population. They can be found all over the world except for Greenland, Iceland and Antarctica.
• Highest life expectancy in the world
Japan is the country with the highest life expectancy in the world. Because of their renowned healthcare and healthy cultural habits, the life expectancy here is about 84.
• Lowest life expectancy in the world
With a life expectancy of just 49.81 years, Chad in Africa stands to be the country with the lowest life expectancy in the world.
• Poorest country in the world
The poorest country in the world is Central African Republic. Here, the average yearly earning is $US 333.20. 80% of the country depends on subsistence farming of livestock to get by.
• Richest country in the world
Qatar is the richest country on Earth, with an average yearly earning of $US 105,091.42. They are currently planning on spending $US 220 billion on the 2022 FIFA World Cup, in contrast to South Africa, which only spent $3.5 billion in 2010.
