Why Pretty Woman is still one of the best rom-coms ever
Pretty Woman is officially 25 years old (Picture: Buena Vista)
Happy birthday, Pretty Woman!
The iconic flick was released on March 23, 1990, making it 25 years old today.
It's still a classic must-watch romantic comedy two and a half decades after its release – and here's why.
This is what the cast of Pretty Woman look like now
1. Julia Roberts is generally awesome
There's a reason this is still one of her best-known roles. Roberts made us all love Vivian Ward, who's funny, strong-minded yet kind-hearted.
2. Richard Gere is a general silver fox
And is acting is alright.
3. Julia Roberts and Richard Gere's chemistry
Can you imagine anyone else playing Vivian and Edward? Of course not.

4. The soundtrack is perfect
Good songs used to brilliant effect. Listen to Roy Orbison's Oh, Pretty Woman and Roxette's It Must Have Been Love and you're immediately transported back to those scenes.
5. Vivian listening to a Walkman in the bath.
Everything about this scene is just amazing.

6. That other bath scene
You know the one.
7. That awesome red dress
Ok, so the white gloves are very 1990. But we still want that red dress.

8. The necklace box-shutting scene
Made even more brilliant by the fact it was unscripted.
9. Vivian and Edward's negotiations
Vivian: 'I would have stayed for two thousand.'
Edward Lewis: 'I would have paid four.'
10. Vivian's revenge on the snooty shop assistant
'You work on commission, right?'
'Uh, yes.'
'Big mistake. Big. Huge,.'

11. Laura San Giacomo as Kit De Luca
'Cindaf**kin'rella'
12. Those boots
(Picture: Buena Vista/Giphy)
13. All of the shoulder pads
The outfits all scream 1990 – and we love it.
14. Julia Roberts' wig
15. Julia Roberts' hair generally
16. Vivian wasn't your typical Cinderella
Ok, so she ends up all loved up with Richard Gere eventually, but Vivian was prepared to walk away rather than settle for being his mistress. See also…
17. Mutual rescuing
Edward climbs up the fire escape to declare his love for Vivian. Classic man-rescues-lady fare. But after he asks what happened next, she replies: 'She rescues him right back.'
18. There were a fair few decent life lessons
Vivian: 'People put you down enough, you start to believe it.'
Edward: 'I think you are a very bright, very special woman.'
Vivian: 'The bad stuff is easier to believe. You ever notice that?'
19. Their first kiss
To say a romantic relationship between a prostitute and her client is unconventional would be putting it mildly, but Vivian and Edward's first kiss is surprisingly moving. She's already said she doesn't kiss clients because it's 'too personal', so it's our first true sign there's something more to their relationship.
20. That piano scene
*Swoons*
21. Hector Elizondo as Barney Thompson
Our favourite hotel manager ever.
22. Her shopping spree
What all shopping montages in film aspire to.
23. The fancy dinner scene
24. Vivian the opera critic
'It was so good, I almost peed my pants!'
25. 'I'm a safety girl'
